In the first we meet Sal as a boy, while he and his father are in the process of moving into a new apartment in the town of Nockfell. At the doctor's prompting, Sal turns to the topic of his childhood, and thus begins a years-long tale of murder, cannibalism, the occult, heavy metal, and the power of friendship.ĭue to its original episodic release, the game unfolds over the course of five discrete acts. We soon learn that the dreamer is one Sal Fisher, a prison inmate who's been describing the nightmares to his court-appointed therapist. He arrives at a hospital bed containing a woman's corpse, and then it ends. The story opens with a disturbing dream sequence: a young boy wanders through abandoned hallways, his face obscured by bloody bandages, while visions from his past appear to admonish him for his sins. It's certainly the only one of its kind you’re likely to play in this reality. This is a gorgeous, inventive, overstuffed, unique, frustrating, delightful adventure game. Imagine.well, imagine whatever you want, really-it's still not going to come close. Imagine snapping out of anesthesia at a Buckethead concert and then reading Lovecraft for the first time. Imagine the dreams you'd have after watching Evil Dead 2 on repeat while consuming only candy and Red Bull.

I’ve spent a long time trying to find a way to accurately describe the full Sally Face experience, and the conclusion I've come to is that language, as a concept, just hasn't gotten there yet.

Begun in 2016 and now finally complete three years later, this five-part episodic series started out as a fairly straightforward story of a young boy in a new town but ends with dimension-hopping, necromancy, body-sharing, and the slaying of eldritch beasts through the power of electric guitar. We still have a long way to go, but I'm excited to share in the journey with you all as we get closer to the Kickstarter launch of Strange Nightmares in February 2023 and the launch of Strange Boxes later this year.Sally Face doesn't lend itself to easy categorization. For the monthly merchandise and mystery box we've been working hard on themes, art, and puzzles that will excite and confound fans while adding even more to the lore. We have written 5 episodes for Strange Nightmares and have been diligently iterating, playtesting, and reiterating to ensure our game feels authentic and is infinitely replayable. Since that initial call in October 2021, we've come a long way. Five years later, here we were sitting on a video call with the creator discussing how we can expand the story and bring the joy, anxiety, thrills, and puzzles to a tabletop experience. The title seemed interesting, dark, and I loved the art. I first met Sal Fisher in 2017 while falling down a rabbit hole on itch.io. Based on the success Maestro Media has had with the record smashing The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls Requiem Kickstarter campaign, this felt like a no brainer and a title our audience would be excited to get into, just like I was.

Honestly that was my initial reaction when we began discussing with Brand Central and Portable Moose the possibility of translating this incredible title to the tabletop.
